Personalized Hospital Performance Report Card

Review, Customize, and Compare Hospital Overall Star Ratings

CONCLUDED PROJECT - The calculator is based on the December 2016 methods report and will not be updated.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reports an overall star rating for most hospitals in the United States. These overall ratings are derived from data in seven performance domains:

  • Mortality
  • Safety of Care
  • Readmissions
  • Patient Experience
  • Timeliness of Care
  • Effectiveness of Care
  • Efficient Use of Medical Imaging

CMS weights the domains to calculate an overall star rating. The calculator below allows you to customize those weights and compare hospitals based on CMS ratings and your own custom ratings.

To use the calculator, start by entering a city and state or zip code in the search box below. The search will find all hospitals within 20 miles of the submitted city or zip code. If there are no hospitals within 20 miles, it will find the closest 10 hospitals.
