Deterrence remains a primary doctrine for dealing with the threat of nuclear weapons in the 21st century. The author reviews the history of nuclear deterrence and calls for a renewed intellectual effort to address the relevance of concepts such as first strike, escalation, extended deterrence, and other Cold War–era strategies in today's complex world of additional superpowers, smaller nuclear powers, and nonstate actors.

Results of a systematic analysis of what is needed to ensure the sustainability of the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) and recommendations for future actions to achieve this goal. The QNRF must make measurable progress in its core mission of fostering a research culture in Qatar and must evolve its governance structure, related infrastructure, and funding model to accommodate new responsibilities mandated by Decree-Law No. (24) of 2008.
Like Israel in 2006, the United States today is likely ill prepared for hybrid warfare. To identify lessons that the U.S. military might learn from the Israeli experience in Lebanon, the author examines the state of the Israeli military before the Second Lebanon War, the lessons it learned during that conflict, the reforms it undertook to address its deficiencies, and how it fared during Operation Cast Lead three years later.
Israel and Iran have come to view each other as direct regional rivals. The two countries are not natural rivals; they have shared geopolitical interests, which led to years of cooperation both before and after the 1979 Islamic revolution. But their rivalry has intensified recently, particularly with the rise of fundamentalist leaders in Iran and the prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran posing grave strategic and ideological challenges to Israel.
