Delegation from Taipei Visits RAND

On June 22, 2000, RAND hosted a visit by thirteen legislators and their staffs from the Taiwanese Legislative Yuan, who were on a fact-finding mission to the United States. The visit to RAND, the delegation's first stop, was prompted in part by a recent Asian Wall Street Journal editorial by RAND researchers Jonathan Pollack and Charles Wolf.  Pollack and Wolf asserted that trade and WTO entry would be the key to breaking the impasse between China and Taiwan over "One China".

The delegation engaged in a wide-ranging discussion with Drs. Pollack and Wolf on the prospects for cross-strait relations, U.S. relations with China and Taiwan, and the implications of joint accession by China and Taiwan to the WTO.
