RAND Participates in Biometric Conference

RAND analysts Kathi Webb, Brian Jackson and John Woodward participated in the Department of Defense (DoD) Biometrics Management Office In Progress Review (IPR) on January 25, 2001.

This IPR updated senior leadership on recent DoD biometric initiatives and discussed the ongoing work of the DoD Biometrics Management Office. As part of its policy support to the DoD Biometrics Management Office, RAND provided a special briefing on biometric issues at this event.

Army Deputy Chief Information Officer David Borland chaired the IPR, which was hosted by Mr. Phillip Loranger, the Director of the DoD Biometrics Management Office, at the DoD's newly-established Biometric Fusion Center in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

Army, Navy, Air Force, National Guard and Army Reserve representatives attended the event along with officials from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, National Security Agency, National Institute of Standards and Technology, and other government agencies. Participants also got to examine the latest biometric technology on display at the center.

RAND's Washington D.C. office will play host to a DoD-wide biometrics meeting in late March where DoD's biometric strategies will be discussed.
