RAND Experts Available to Discuss U.S.-North Korea Rising Tensions

September 25, 2017

North Korean foreign minister Ri Yong Ho stated today that President Trump has “declared war” on his country and that Kim Jong Un's regime would consider shooting down American bombers even if not in North Korean airspace. A range of RAND experts are available to discuss the latest developments.

Bruce Bennett is a senior international/defense researcher at RAND who works primarily on research topics such as strategy, force planning, and counterproliferation within the RAND International Security and Defense Policy Center. Bennett has vast expertise on North Korea and is available for interviews.

Michael Mazarr, a senior political scientist and associate director of the Arroyo Center's Strategy, Doctrine and Resources Program at the RAND Corporation, can discuss what options the Trump administration should consider to avoid any further escalation and the danger of a continual nuclear build-up by North Korea. Mazarr is available for interviews.

Timothy Heath is a senior international defense researcher at the RAND Corporation and member of the Pardee RAND Graduate School faculty. Heath can provide an overview on China's growing concerns about North Korea's nuclear program and stability in the region.
