Gun Policy Expert to Outline Need for Better Gun Policy Research in Testimony Before Congressional Subcommittee


Gun policy expert Andrew Morral of the RAND Corporation will address how scientific research and improved data collection may help reduce disagreements about gun policy during testimony before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies. The hearing is titled Addressing the Public Health Emergency of Gun Violence. Morral is a RAND researcher and director of the National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research.

The hearing will be live-streamed. Morral's prepared testimony will be posted to the RAND website after the hearing.


Morral will outline:

  • How little is known about gun violence and its prevention compared to similar health and safety threats
  • Some of the key research questions that should be priorities for any future gun policy research
  • Investments lawmakers should consider to build a robust and transformative gun policy research enterprise.
