RAND Expert to Testify About Suicide Prevention for U.S. Veterans
Who
Rajeev Ramchand, codirector of the RAND Epstein Family Veterans Policy Research Institute and a senior behavioral scientist at the RAND Corporation, will testify before the House Veterans' Affairs Committee.
What
Ramchand will discuss four strategies critical for preventing veteran suicides:
- Improving the national mortality data infrastructure
- Using data to better understand veterans' health care experiences outside the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
- Collecting better and more-comprehensive data on veteran firearm ownership and storage
- Incentivizing researchers to collect data on suicide when testing novel and promising mental health treatments
