RAND Experts to Discuss Surge in Misinformation/Disinformation Amid Israel-Hamas War


RAND experts will discuss the rapidly degrading environment for authentic information about the Israel-Hamas war, amplified by the proliferation of generative AI. They'll discuss the roles and responsibilities of social media platforms as well as the implications of widespread disinformation on both national security and violence in the United States.

  • Todd Helmus, senior behavioral scientist at RAND; nationally recognized expert on disinformation and violent extremism.
  • William Marcellino, senior behavioral scientist at RAND. Expert on generative AI; information as a warfighting function; and misinformation, disinformation, and conspiracy theories over social media.
  • Miriam Matthews, senior behavioral and social scientist at RAND; expert on political psychology and the effects of malign and subversive information efforts on attitudes and behaviors.
