Codebook for the Survey of Landlords

Site II, Baseline

Published 1981

The baseline survey of landlords was conducted in Site II of the Housing Assistance Supply Experiment (St. Joseph County, Indiana), from November 1974 to June 1975. This codebook reproduces the questions in the survey instrument and related forms, specifies all permissible responses, and annotates each question. "Marginals" (tabulated response frequencies) are included, covering the 1,915 field-complete questionnaires that resulted from interview attempts with the owners of 3,025 rental properties. Information was gathered on acquisition and ownership of the property; the owner's experience and activity in real estate; management, maintenance, and operating costs; repairs and improvements; mortgage, taxes, and insurance; perception of the neighborhood; landlord-tenant relationships; plans for the property; and attitudes.
