The Prescription Drug Information Study was designed to determine how variations in informational leaflets (patient package inserts or PPIs) given out with prescription drugs affect patients' knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. This Note describes the design of the study and the rationale underlying major design choices. It describes the independent variables and how they were manipulated, the eligible population and experimental procedures, and the dependent and background variables and how they were measured. Copies of the experimental PPIs and survey instruments are appended.
