Dental Examinations

The codebook in this volume describes the contents of one data file from the Health Insurance Experiment (HIE), a large social experiment conducted by The RAND Corporation from 1974 to 1982 in six sites across the United States under a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This Note documents the dental examination file, which contains data collected via dental screening examinations administered to participants at enrollment and exit from the experiment. The file itself contains identifying variables for each participant who completed a dental screening examination, and derived variables that describe the prevalence of tooth decay and periodontal disease.
