This Note is one of a series of three RAND publications presenting the results of a survey of individuals recruited to mathematics and science teaching from nontraditional pools (e.g., retirees, homemakers, career switchers, and recent college graduates with relevant degrees) and of the programs that prepare these individuals for teaching. The Note comprises detailed case studies of ten nontraditional teacher preparation programs across the country. The emphasis is on the structure of the programs, the reasons for their initiation, the recruitment pools toward which they are targeted, and program requirements.
