Section 6 Schools in Six States

This Note contains case studies that analyze the issues surrounding possible transfer of 11 Section 6 school systems, funded and operated by the Department of Defense on U.S. military bases, to state and local responsibility. Each case study describes the concerns of the parties involved, and identifies the factors that facilitate or impede the transfer. A follow-on study to R-3647, the Note also identifies the relative ease of transfer and best transfer option for each of the 17 school systems in the Section 6 program.
