Text of a talk at the decommissioning ceremonies for the RAND-built computer, JOHNNIAC, held 18 February 1966. The history and development of JOHNNIAC are traced from the early search for more computing power in 1950 to the very recent use of the computer as a research tool. The press release of JOHNNIAC's demise is appended.
