Preparing justice-involved individuals for successful reentry into the community and long-term desistance from crime is a critical mission of corrections agencies and their community-based partners. To accomplish this goal, corrections agencies employ a variety of supervision services and programs to address common need areas. In this report, experts identified strategies for employing technology to improve reentry outcomes.

In this report, researchers describe the results of a panel in which participants discussed the intersections between SUDs and sex trafficking and how they complicate victims' identification, screening, and ability to access treatment and legal remedies. The report also presents recommendations for service providers, victim advocates, and criminal justice practitioners.

The authors examined the extent to which best practices for juvenile justice systems are considered when making funding decisions for services funded by the Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act (JJCPA) in Los Angeles. The results, based on the responses from a survey of gun policy experts, can also illustrate the trade-offs created when a group of policies improves one set of outcomes but undermines others.
This report describes combined results from two fieldings of a survey of gun policy experts. In particular, respondents estimated the likely effects of 19 gun policies on ten outcomes, such as firearm homicides and the right to bear arms. Researchers use the results to identify where experts agree and disagree the most and whether disagreements stem from assumptions about the effects of gun policies or from differences in policy objectives.
RAND Europe was commissioned to conduct a study on how different acts of violence are classified by subject matter experts (SMEs). The study was based on the inputs of 25 SMEs from a range of backgrounds (government/policy, practitioners, and academia/research) and fields (e.g. counter-terrorism, legal, policing). The findings demonstrate ongoing difficulties in classifying acts of violence and inform recommendations for policymakers.
This report provides interim findings on the Aerial Investigation Research pilot program, a Baltimore Police Department program in which manned aircraft equipped with cameras gathered evidence to support crime investigations. The Priority Criminal Justice Needs Initiative convened workshops in fall 2020 to gather lessons learned from the responses of different justice agencies to the pandemic. Participants identified challenges caused by the pandemic, innovations in response, and lessons for future justice reform.
