IFLS-4 Survey Description

The fourth wave of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS4) is a continuation of IFLS, expanding the panel to 2007/2008.

IFLS4 is a collaborative effort of RAND, the center for Population and Policy Studies (CPPS) of the University of Gadjah Mada and Survey METRE. The project is directed by John Strauss (University of Southern California and RAND). Firman Witoelar (Survey METRE), Bondan Sikoki (Survey METRE) and Sukamdi (Director of CPPS) are co-PIs. Sikoki is Field Director of IFLS4, as she was for IFLS2, 2+ and 3. Ana Marie Wattie, Director of Research for CPPS, directs the CPPS staff involved in the project.

Funding for IFLS4 was provided by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), grant 1R01 AG026676, the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), grant 1R01 HD050764 and grants from the World Bank, Indonesia Office.

IFLS4 was designed between February and September 2007. Interviewer training began in mid-October 2007 (after Idul Fitri), and fieldwork took place between late November 2007 and the end of April 2008, with long distance tracking extending through the end of May 2008.

The IFLS4 is in public release. The Household data and Community-Facility data are available from the IFLS data download link.
