May 08, 2024 | Janes

China Poly Technologies unveiled the A2000, a new advanced combat unmanned surface vessel (USV) at the DSA 2024 exhibition. The A2000, measuring 45 meters in length with a displacement of 280 tonnes and a top speed of 35 knots, is powered by twin diesel engines and two controllable pitch propellers. It is equipped with an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, an eight-cell vertical launching system for surface-to-air missiles, and 24-cell launchers for rockets, although it lacks anti-ship missile capabilities. The USV's trimaran hull design enhances stealth by minimizing radar detection, and it supports operations with VTOL unmanned aircraft systems for expanded surveillance, making it adaptable for both peacetime and conflict scenarios. Poly Technologies is actively seeking customers for the A2000 in the Middle East and South Asia, and the vessel, initially named Thunderer at its unveiling, can have its name customized per customer preferences.
