In Memoriam: Elliot Axelband

RAND Corporation staff are saddened at the passing of Elliot Axelband on Sunday, May 14, 2017. Axelband worked at RAND for nearly 12 years, in addition to 12 years before that as an adjunct staff member.

Elliot Axelband was a senior engineer at RAND. He was also professor and associate dean emeritus at the USC School of Engineering, an associate editor of INCOSE Journal, and a manager and part owner of Legacy Engineering LLC. Axelband wrote more than 50 professional papers, and spent 35 years with Hughes Electronics (Hughes Aircraft Co.), retiring as a General Manager and Vice President.

Axelband was an IEEE Life Fellow, an INCOSE Fellow, a recipient of the Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award, and served on two multi-year DoD Program Review Studies, the DoD Scientific Advisory Board and the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board.
