Displaced New Orleans Residents Survey (DNORS)
The Displaced New Orleans Residents Survey (DNORS) is designed to examine the current location, well-being, and plans of people who lived in the City of New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck on 29 August 2005.
Family Life Surveys
The Family Life Surveys are a set of detailed household and community surveys of developing countries conducted by RAND, in collaboration with research institutions in the given countries. The currently available country surveys cover Malaysia (1976-77, 1988-89), Indonesia (1993), Guatemala (1995), and Bangladesh (1996).
Health and Fertility Archive
The Central American Population Program has compiled a set of fertility and health surveys carried out by different Central American institutions and international agencies in Central America, Panama, and Belize.
Health and Retirement Study (HRS)
The Center for Aging actively supports empirical research on aging by facilitating the use of data sets commonly used in secondary analysis. Currently available are RAND versions of Health and Retirement Study (HRS) data and Asset and Health Dynamics Among the Oldest Old (AHEAD) data.
Human Biospecimen Database
The Human Biospecimen Data Collection project provides a Web-based, searchable database of biospecimens collected, stored, and distributed by biorepositories for research purposes. The Web site was developed under contract with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Rare Diseases (ORD).
Indonesian Census and Inter-Censal Data Sets
The Data Management and Computing Core of the Population Research Center has acquired and translated documentation for Indonesian census and inter-censal data sets, collected by Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics.
Los Angeles Family and Neighborhood Survey
The Los Angeles Family and Neighborhood Survey (L.A. FANS) is a longitudinal study of families in Los Angeles County and of the neighborhoods in which they live.
Partners in Care Study Instruments
These measures were fielded as part of "Partners in Care," a trial conducted to determine whether primary care clinics could implement practical programs for improving depression care for adults and to assess whether such programs could reduce disparities in care for minorities in comparison to usual care.
Police Recruitment and Retention Clearinghouse
Part of the RAND Center on Quality Policing, the Police Recruitment and Retention Clearinghouse is a web-based resource that serves as a "one-stop-shop" for information about recruitment and retention specifically designed for the law enforcement community in order to promote evidence-based personnel planning.
RAND Database of Worldwide Terrorism Incidents
A database of terrorism incidents stretching back to 1972 with over 36,000 incidents coded and detailed. The new subscription-based RDWTI, launched in January 2009, is a fully searchable and interactive database.
RAND Health Insurance Experiment
The RAND Health Insurance Experiment is a 15-year, multimillion-dollar effort that encouraged the restructuring of private insurance and helped increase the stature of managed care.
Student Traumatic Experience Recovery Toolkit
This guide shows how to provide school-based mental health programs for students exposed to violence, natural disasters and other traumatic events.
Survey of Pesticide Use during the Gulf War
RAND conducted a survey designed to quantify the use of pesticides by the average U.S. military service member during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm between August 1990 and July 1991.
Research Tools
Building Water Efficiency Analysis Model (BEAM)
To help building owners make better water-efficiency decisions, this model allows convenient assessment of potential value of water-efficiency investments.
Calculating Uncertainty in Biomass Emissions (CUBE) Model
CUBE 1.0 allows users to explore how estimates of net greenhouse gas emissions of biomass feedstocks change with varying assumptions about uncertainty in scientific data, future agricultural production changes, and development of the biomass resource base.
California Air Pollution Mapping Tool
RAND analysts estimated how failing to meet federal and state standards for particulate matter and ozone affected private and public insurer spending on hospital admissions for respiratory and cardiovascular causes, and ER visits for asthma, throughout California from 2005-2007.
Cost of Crime Calculator
Cost-of-crime and police effectiveness research can be used to measure how changing the size of police departments will affect overall crime costs to society.
Emergency Planning Guide for Child-Serving Organizations
The Promising Practices Network developed an online emergency planning guide tailored to organizations that provide direct social services to children and families, such as child care centers, after-school programs, and camps. The information is likely to be helpful to other organizations that work with children and families, including schools and health care providers.
Health Surveys and Tools
Instruments and scoring instructions for many major health services surveys are available from the RAND Health website, as well as practical tools for improving quality of care.
A Million Random Digits with 100,000 Normal Deviates
This 1955 book was a product of RAND's computing power (and patience). The tables of random numbers in the book have become a standard reference in engineering and econometrics textbooks and have been widely used in gaming and simulations that employ Monte Carlo trials. Still the largest known source of random digits and normal deviates, the work is routinely used by statisticians, physicists, pollsters, market analysts, lottery administrators, and quality control engineers.
Missouri Health Literacy Mapping Tool
This interactive mapping tool can help healthcare decisionmakers in Missouri identify community-level "hotspots" of suboptimal health or healthcare that may be due to low health literacy, and retrieve information about neighborhood characteristics and access to health services in specific communities.
