Artist's Statement

Thanks to photographic art we can represent memories and happy moments. This collage is a small representation of my community in El Pueblo. We are people of color, Hispanix, Latinx, multiracial, we make collective power together, where everyone is welcome. For our community unity and coexistence is important and the exchange of affection, love, food, talks, laughter, hugs, music, dance, communication. Due to the COVID-19, all this that is important for my community was lost due to the COVID precautionary measures. We saw the need in our community and we began to do something about it, holding virtual meetings not only to chat and see each other but also to talk about important issues such as anxiety, depression, care, prevention, and information about COVID-19. When we could spend time together we started holding events open to all communities such as Zumba, yoga, graduation party, queer prom, meetings for young people or adults to make collective power even we did a great event "La fiesta del pueblo" on the Hispanic month. where everyone is invited, we share affection, food, music, we help people to fill their census, dance, information. See how many people from different communities not only different communities referring to their race also the LGBTQ community, queer, adults, teens, children attended each event either virtual or in-person. Something we are doing well to make them feel included and see how the COVID united us, made us appreciate the importance of talking, seeing each other, spending time together, sharing affection, music, etc.
