Overview

Meredith Kleykamp (she/her) is a senior sociologist at the RAND Corporation. Her primary research centers on the consequences of military service for servicemembers, veterans, and their families as well as military personnel policies and challenges. Her recent research has examined societal perceptions and reception of returning veterans, military identity in the transition out of military service, hiring discrimination against veterans and military spouses, pre-enlistment diversity attitudes among military-propensed youth, and how to desegregate recruit training in the United States Marine Corps among other projects. Her past research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the Army Research Institute. Her work has been published in academic journals and peer-reviewed RAND reports. She served on the Institute of Medicine Committee on the Readjustment Needs of Military Personnel, Veterans, and their Families, and the Maryland Governor’s Challenge team on Preventing Suicide. She is also an associate professor at the University of Maryland, and previously taught at the University of Kansas and United States Military Academy. She received a Ph.D. in sociology from Princeton University in 2007.
