Susan Bodilly Appointed Director of RAND Education

Susan Bodilly has been appointed director of RAND Education, RAND Corporation President and CEO James A. Thomson announced today.

Bodilly joined RAND 27 years ago and has served as acting director of RAND Education since June 2005. Her primary research interests and expertise lie in K-12 school reform; resource allocation and its impact on reforms; formative evaluation; and implementation analysis.

RAND Education conducts objective research and analysis on a variety of topics, including academic testing, school choice, educational accountability, trends among teachers and teacher training.

“Sue Bodilly has played an instrumental role in RAND's work on education reform and policy issues,” Thomson said. “Her dedication and expertise in this field will serve our nonprofit research organization well as she takes over this new leadership role.”

Currently, Bodilly is leading an evaluation of the Ford Foundation's Collaborating for Educational Reform Initiative, which is a 10-year program to increase the number of minority students achieving academic success from pre-K through college graduation. She played a major role in the RAND evaluation of the New American Schools Initiative, and recently authored a report on the effective use of out-of-school time.

Bodilly received a doctorate in public policy from George Mason University in Virginia and a master's degree in public policy from the University of Texas, Austin. She also holds a bachelor's degree in economics from University of California, Berkeley.
