Jamie Smith is a senior analyst at RAND Europe on the Science and Emerging Technology team. Smith’s work in the Research and Innovation workstream explores how research is assessed, the conditions in which research happens, and the wider systems that enable it.
Prior to joining RAND, Smith was a research manager for Ecorys UK, where he managed several complex evaluation projects for UK government departments and international institutions, including clients such as DHSC, Defra, FCDO, the World Bank, and the IFRC. Smith has over 5 years’ experience utilising qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to provide evidence to inform policy decisions across a range of topics, including: global health research, disaster risk financing and conflict prevention.
Smith holds an M.Sc. in international development from the University of Birmingham, where his research focused on Regional Security Cooperation in Africa. He holds a B.A. in international relations from the same institution.
