The Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) is not a war on terrorism or Islam, it is a campaign against Al-Qaida. This chapter will consider the origins, development, and central themes of U.S. policy, and touch upon such topics as the domestic U.S. debate over the GWOT/Long War, international cooperation, and the war in Iraq.
