The Imperative to Defend Minefields

The U.S. military can use naval minefields to achieve various operational ends. Many articles have pointed out the prospective advantages that could accrue from using offensive minefields to trap enemy submarines or surface ships in port, deny access to key waters, damage ships, and disrupt the complex choreography of an adversary's amphibious assault.
