A public health approach to prevention and treatment has promise for clinicians to address the harms related to patients' information environments. The public health prevention framework categorizes prevention efforts into 5 levels: primordial, primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary. This framework has been applied to numerous health conditions, from stroke to substance use disorders, and also infodemics, defined as an overabundance of information, including misinformation and disinformation.
