As part of the Housing Assistance Supply Experiment, the baseline survey of neighborhoods was conducted in St. Joseph County, Indiana (Site II of the experiment), from August 1974 to December 1975. The codebook exactly reproduces each question in the two survey instruments used--one for local sources (the NLS) and another for street observations (the NSOB)--and specifies every permissible response. Each question is accompanied by a tabulation of all responses recorded in the preliminary master file, which contains 86 records for the NLS and 12,152 for the NSOB.
