Documentation is provided for the data files resulting from a national survey conducted by The Rand Corporation on the cost of special education. The objective of this study is to improve decisionmaking on special education programming and finance by providing information on both the services provided and the costs of alternative types of educational placements for children of different ages with various types of physical and mental handicaps.
