Documents a file of survey data describing 1,001 home purchase transactions completed in California in 1981. The data were collected by California Technical Assistance Associates, Inc., from a sample of 73 geographically dispersed offices of escrow companies, and provide full financial details on the terms of the transactions and each loan of record. RAND obtained copies of the field reports, edited the data, and prepared a machine-readable file for analysis. This Note reviews the steps in file preparation, assesses the quality of the data, and provides a coding guide to the final master file.

This report is part of the RAND Corporation Note series. The note was a product of the RAND Corporation from 1979 to 1993 that reported other outputs of sponsored research for general distribution.
