The interpretation and computation of axisymmetric head waves.

H. A. Lang

Expert InsightsPublished 1960

An application of the physical requirement of continuous displacements to the evaluation of two elliptic integrals, the imaginary members of which represent, in part, the component displacements of head waves (refraction arrivals) in the problem of the seismic surface pulse. The method is a preliminary step in the development of superposition techniques for axisymmetric wave fields in bounded elastic media.

This publication is part of the RAND paper series. The paper series was a product of RAND from 1948 to 2003 that captured speeches, memorials, and derivative research, usually prepared on authors' own time and meant to be the scholarly or scientific contribution of individual authors to their professional fields. Papers were less formal than reports and did not require rigorous peer review.
