A description of a mechanism for selectively transferring charge in clouds in a way that enhances the normal atmospheric electrostatic field. Calculations using observed cloud and rain-drop size distribution give electrostatic fields of the magnitude observed in thunderstorms within the observed time. See P-2345 for a rederivation of the field growth equation.
