On Geomagnetic Fluctuations in Regions Remote from High-Altitude Nuclear Bursts.
Expert InsightsPublished 1962
A suggestion that ionospheric ionization caused by beta particles resulting from the decay of detonation-produced neutrons is capable of causing an artificial geomagnetic solar flare effect in regions several thousands of kilometers from a high-altitude nuclear burst. Estimates concerning the characteristics of this effect are made and compared with experimental results.

This publication is part of the RAND paper series. The paper series was a product of RAND from 1948 to 2003 that captured speeches, memorials, and derivative research, usually prepared on authors' own time and meant to be the scholarly or scientific contribution of individual authors to their professional fields. Papers were less formal than reports and did not require rigorous peer review.
