An approach to a fundamental theory of combined evaporation from soil surface and transpiration from plants (evapotranspiration). A mathematical model is proposed that links the concept of transpiration ratio to potential evapotranspiration, and reflects experimental evidence that optimal plant growth may be a fixed function of received insolation. 6 pp.
