A review of recent Indonesian events, particularly from the time that the Dutch colonial government was replaced by President Sukarno's administration. In the next few months the control of the government and administration of Indonesia will be reverting from military to civilian hands. The political calculus of the Indonesian leadership will be affected by compelling economic considerations. It is therefore surprising that Indonesia is now giving full moral support to the Brunei revolt in opposition to the creation of the Federation of Malaysia. This decision indicates the possibility that Indonesia's radical mationalism is turning into expansionism. Indonesia's political moves can become a source of major concern to her neighbors, as she now possesses effective military forces. Indonesia must demonstrate international responsibility, however, to satisfy the hopes of her people for a better life.
