A description of DETAB-X (Decision Tables, Experimental), an experimental language that combines COBOL-61 and decision tables. The use of DETAB-X in business-oriented problem description is discussed with particular reference to banking systems. It is felt that programs written in DETAB-X will provide improved communication between system designers, programmers, and functional specialists. DETAB-X is also expected to increase the accuracy and completeness of problem statement achievable by existing languages.
