Use of extraterrestrial resources for Mars basing.

A discussion of logistics requirements in planetary exploration. It is pointed out that supply will be greatly simplified by the use of regenerative techniques, hydroponic gardening, and the exploitation of planetary resources. The extraction of water alone from lunar or Marian sources will reeduce the supply requirements to a small fraction of what would be required directly from Earth. The advantages will be demonstrable in the cost, flexibility, and safety of the missions.
