Geomagnetism and the ionosphere

A discussion of the magnetosphere and the dynamics of energetic particles and plasma trapped within it. Local acceleration of trapped particles is discussed, and the possible origins of electric fields and their roles in magnetospheric phenomena are outlined. Many phenomena of interest may be newly interpreted in terms of a slight extension of the original Chapman-Ferraro theory of geomagnetic storms.
