A discussion of the Chinese language including: (1) a brief history of its development, (2) a comparison of three major systems of romanization for written Chinese, and (3) the teaching of Chinese in the United States. Appendixes include a comparative key to systems for romanization of Chinese, a table of simplified Chinese characters, an index to Chinese phonetics, a list of Chinese radicals, and a list of the Old National Phonetic Symbols.
