Comments on Bernard Fall's The Pathet Lao : A 'Liberation' Party.
A comment prepared in lieu of a revision of the late Bernard Fall's study of the Pathet Lao movement in Robert A. Scalapino (ed.), [The Communist Revolution in Asia]. In 1965, the international relations of the Pathet Lao movement and the role played by outside Communist influences were not as clear as they are today. Soviet influence has decreased and that of China has increased in the Communist areas of Laos, but both powers' influence is overshadowed by that of North Vietnam. Testimony of Lao and Vietnamese prisoners and defectors confirm Pathet Lao reliance on North Vietnamese military, economic, political, and ideological support and illustrate the ways in which the North Vietnamese program is carried out. 6 pp.
