Repulsive Core and Interaction Energy in Proton-Proton Scattering.

Interaction energy between two protons is computed from high-energy elastic cross sections at 60 deg and 90 deg, using an optical model. The repulsive core becomes important for separation less than 0.3 Fermi. Exponential dependence of high-energy cross sections is shown to predict repulsive forces at small separation. 10 pp. Refs.
