A series of lectures by Caltech Professor of Astronomy and Planetary Sciences, Peter Goldreich, intended to serve as an introduction for physicists with no background in astrophysics. The lecture notes were edited and expanded by the 3 Rand men and Peter Collas, Associate Professor of Physics, San Fernando Valley State College. The major topics are: (1) propagation of electromagnetic radiation in the galaxy; (2) scintillations of radio sources; (3) quasi-stellar sources; (4) synchrotron radiation and inverse Compton scattering; (5) cosmology, Newtonian and relativistic; (6) tests of cosmological models; (7) existence of horizons in cosmology; (8) universal blackbody radiation; (9) nucleo-synthesis in the first 1001 seconds; (10) galaxy formation; and (11) the Goldreich-Julian model of pulsar electrodynamics.
