Derek McKay

Expert InsightsPublished 1977

Briefly characterizes the possible types of electricity shortage that may occur. A scheme for rationing available output in an economically efficient manner is outlined. This utilizes recent advances and cost reductions in microelectronics for new metering and load control devices. In addition to handling crisis shortages it provides economic signals which indicate the optimal investment in reliability.
