Passing fancies: plus ca change--

The policy sciences, as articulated by Lasswell and others more than thirty years ago, have undergone a series of transformations. This paper examines some of these changes as observed in three characteristics of the policy sciences: their multidisciplinary approach; their problem-oriented, contextual basis; and their explicitly normative concerns. Drawing upon these trends, the paper concludes by posing some logical extensions as to directions in which the policy sciences might develop in the coming years.
