Letter from the Editor

This issue of RAND Health Quarterly includes a selection of articles on health care delivery, quality, and patient safety. Lori Uscher-Pines led a team that investigated changes in telehealth utilization during the coronavirus pandemic and health center staff experiences with implementation. Laura Fraade-Blanar and colleagues examined the use of rideshare in the nonemergency medical transportation context.

This issue also includes a number of articles on health promotion and disease prevention. A team led by Ryan Andrew Brown examined similarities between violent extremism and substance dependence. They reviewed evidence from psychology, neuroscience, sociology, and public health that suggests that there are similarities in violent extremism and substance dependence in terms of the underlying neural pathways, social and psychological causes, behavioral patterns, and opportunities for prevention and intervention. Lynn Langton and other RAND researchers describe the results of a panel in which participants discussed the intersections between substance use disorders and sex trafficking and how they complicate victims' identification, screening, and ability to access treatment and legal remedies.
