An exploration of the potential cost and water-conserving possibilities of a new type of cooling tower for electricity generating power plants. The new tower concept is called the dry/spray tower. It is a "hybrid," acting as a water conserving dry tower during cooler weather and as a more efficient evaporative tower during hotter weather. As conceived, it would be designed as a modified dry tower, operating "dry" until the ambient temperature reached a certain point, above which water would be sprayed onto the heat exchanger to provide additional cooling by evaporation. For the preliminary study, 70 deg F was chosen as the "threshold" temperature.
