A summary of U.S. transportation energy consumption data not previously available in a single source, including (1) data for all major passenger and/or freight transport modes (highways, pipelines, aviation, water, railroads) and the U.S. military; (2) separate data for domestic and international operations; (3) data in tabular time-series from 1955 to 1971 (1972, when available) in both energy units (trillion Btu) and physical quantities (gallons, barrels, etc.); (4) estimates of unavailable data, qualified and explained; and (5) references to all primary and secondary sources to aid the user in updating statistics in the future. 59 pp. Ref.
