A survey of the principal techniques being proposed for using a computer to solve nonlinear programming problems. Much is known about preferred methods of handling linear programming problems (i.e., methods restricted to variables of the first degree, involving simple straightline functions and affording only crude approximations to real-life solutions). However, very little is known about preferred methods for the more precise and difficult nonlinear programming. This report discusses various computational methods for attacking nonlinear programming problems and identifies the type of problems to which they can be applied. 46 pp.
