A discussion of the aerodynamic heating of blunt bodies at hypersonic speeds, together with the tendency toward laminar separation. The recirculating or vortexlike motion below the separated flow is described. Several cases of heat transfer in the presence of circulation are examined in order to determine various parameters and estimates of the circulation effect.
