A handbook for estimating material requirements and costs of shelter doors subjected to long-duration blast loading.

C. A. Sandoval

ResearchPublished 1958

Data used to estimate both the quantities of materials and the costs for various sizes of shelter doors made of reinforced concrete, solid-steel slab, and wide-flange steel beams. Results are presented for overpressures up to 400 psi. Resistance to nuclear and thermal radiation is not considered. It is shown that wide-flange structural shapes are the lightest, reinforced concrete slabs are the most economical, and solid-steel slabs are the most expensive. For small spans, steel slabs are suitable, since they require little fabrication.
