A survey of the United States IGY data-collecting activities pertaining to the geophysics of the upper atmosphere. Our data centers and programs in the ionosphere, aurora, cosmic rays, solar activity, and geomagnetism are described. The IGY rocket and satellite program is discussed, and the need for more extensive data analysis by the United States is indicated. (See also RM-2310.)
